PEAK VS. SHAWL LAPEL VS. NOTCH LAPEL | WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF LAPELS?

There are different kinds of Lapels for 3-piece-s suit. They are always a reflection of the jacket’s proportions.

Suit lapels are designed by folding the garment’s front edges over and stitching them to the collar.

The lapel is extended to just about the mid-point between the collar and the shoulders.

There are three most common types of lapels:

Notch Lapel: The top of a lapel and the bottom of the collar meets in a notch. This is the most commonly used type of lapel. This is considered as the standard lapel on most single-breasted suits and blazers.

Peak Lapel: In a peak lapel, the tip of the lapel points upwards, standing proud from the collar. A peak lapel is more formal and always found on double-breasted jackets.

Shawl Lapel: The collar has a continuous curve without a break like a peak or a notch lapel. These are seen only on tuxedos and worn at exclusive events like a wedding event.
